Experiencing His Presence
God is near, now.
There’s a fire that burns around you and a fire that burns within you.
The wildfire of God consumes everything that’s dead, unfruitful, and unholy. But inside that blaze, there’s a secret place a still center of safety and intimacy.
Psalm 91 calls it the shadow of the Almighty. This has become a life scripture for me. Maybe you need to rip out the page with the verse and keep it in your pocket. When I feel far from God, I turn to Psalm 91.
I always have to re-read Psalm 91, because in the busyness of life, I just forget. Sometimes, I feel so overwhelmed I just want to hide or runaway. I will cry out in my shower “Hide me in you God!”
God’s love for you is described as a consuming fire. It’s not the kind of blaze that leaves you charred it’s the kind that burns away the counterfeit and reveals the gold. When you feel like you’re at the end of yourself, you are more near to the fire than you can imagine!
Psalm 91 is the invitation to dwell in His Presence. There is so much more for you than a visitation every Sunday.
The psalmist says:
“He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge.” (v. 4)
It’s the mystery of divine protection and purification happening at once.
You can burn with holy fire and still be hidden under His wings. You can feel the intensity of His call and still rest in His covering.
This is what it means to live out revival and rest to be a burning one who still abides.
